On Saturday 8th October 2005
A
devastating earthquake
hit Kashmir and northern Pakistan resulting in whole cities such as Balakot, Muzaffarabad, Bagh and other small villages being razed to the ground. Over 80000 deaths, Over 200000 injured, Over 600000 houses collapsed, 3.3 million people made homeless.

On seeing such devastation, it was decided to set up an emergency Relief Committee known as the Jammu Kashmir Relief Committee (JKRC) now known as Kashmir Relief and Development Foundation (KRDF) in order to help the victims of this tremendous tragedy never known before or experienced in the whole history of Jammu Kashmir.

Emergency relief camps were set up by JKRC in all the major cities of Azad Jammu Kashmir and JKRC volunteers worked around the clock to help the earthquake victims. This included distribution of tents, food supplies, clothing and shelter that was provided by JKRC with the help of individuals and various organisations

Up to 31st May 2006, the following emergency relief work had been done:

 £ 65000 spent on Metal Sheets for construction of shelters.

bullet

 £20000 spent on the provision of food.

bullet

 £8000 spent on tents.

bullet

 £1,3000 spent on Blankets, Quilts, and Clothing etc.

Rebuilding and reconstruction Phase.
JKRC now KRDF a UK registered charity has done the following projects with the help of other NGOs.

 Primary School rebuilt in Namnotta funded by Luton Council of Faiths.

bullet  Primary School rebuilt in Kamsar Camp, Muzaffarabad

bullet

 5 Vocational Training Centres in Bagh funded by KET Sheffield UK

bullet

 2 Vocational Training Centre in Muzaffarabad District of Azag Kashmir

bullet  2 Vocational Training Centre in Rawalakot Azad Kashmir

bullet

 Six weeks IT educational programme in Bagh with the help of KET.

New projects in the pipeline.
Ten more Vocational Training Centres
One Secondry and one High School in Muzaffarabad (need sponsors)
Two Health Centres  (need sponsors)
One Ambulance  (need sponsors)
